Sumire Sakuma, born in Japan in 1985, is an interdisciplinary artist, working mainly with installation, video, photography, and text.

She has been working on a meditative and contemplative understanding of self, nature, space, and perception and how they all interrelate previously practiced Ikebana over years. It has evolved into working with any types of objects or living things that we can find around us, in any spaces - inside/outside - private/public - virtual/physical.

Her interest is to meet an existence created by interactions between foreign objects as an organism or society and surroundings, including viewers & participants in the space in broader terms as a response resulting from spontaneous behaviors.

"Just like when water spills on a cloth and the universe is born."

She currently lives and works in Munich, Germany.
