Sumire Sakuma, born in 1985, is a Japanese artist, working mainly with installation, video, photography, and text.

Over 15 years of her practice with Ikebana, Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement, she has been working on a meditative and contemplative understanding of self, nature, space, and perception, and how they all interrelate. It has evolved through these years into working with any types of objects or living things that we can find around us, not only with flowers, in any spaces - inside/outside - private/public - virtual/physical.

Her interest is to meet an existence created by interactions between foreign objects as an organism or society, and surroundings including viewers and participants at a space in broader terms as a response resulted from spontaneous behaviors.

"Just like when water spill on a cloth and the universe is born."

She currently lives and works in Tokyo.
